Since early 2020 we have inundated with news and dire predictions of the global COVID pandemic. Each night we sit and watch our televisions waiting in fear as this dreaded disease slowly moves closer to home. With each passing day we become more aware of the signals that our body are sending us. Then it hits, every symptom listed we have except for the fever and our imagination spirals into the horror stories we have been listening to nightly.
Shy of a contamination suit we bundle ourselves up and rush to our Doctor or local Emergency Room to confirm our suspicions. After Triage we have a pretty young nurse enter our room carrying a swab telling us to lean our heads back for a simple nose swab. That’s when we find that her ancestors were members of the Inquisition as we feel the swab entering our brain. For something so contagious why would they have to go so deep for their sample. Holding back tears we wait in our room for the dreaded prognosis.
For many their greatest fear has been realized, others find that they are having a simple allergic reaction to something in the environment. Yet each us are wondering why God allows pandemics to sweep through our lands.
These pandemics like all the other “must needs be” signs are just a tool God uses as He makes ready the Earth for the End Times.
For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
Matthew 24:7
As the video above shows there have been pandemics stretching all the way back to the time Jesus walked the earth. These are not something new where technology and men’s hubris make exotic illnesses with no known cure releasing them on an unsuspecting population. They are signs that God is at work in our lives today.
Since the Black Plague we have been told to practice basic hygiene to minimize our exposure. Yet we find ourselves time and again falling back into lazy age old habits that increase our risk for the next wave of germs invading our lives.
This week let’s maintain our spiritual development with God seeking Him daily in our lives, but
also let us re access our lives and develop habits that would keep us from contracting these pestilences that God has been sending our way.
Father,
As is my nature I fail you in all areas in my life. Your Word tells me to clean my life up
to be Holy as you are Holy, yet I tend to focus only on the spiritual forgetting that I am
also a physical being. Lord, grant me the will to live a life that is pleasing to You and
one that will show Jesus to other’s around me. For without the natural balance of
following You in my life, life is not worth living. Let the words I speak, actions I
take and compassion I show reflect to the world that my Savior and Lord is the source of
all life and happiness.
Amen
